Alison Stateman

Writer and Communications Specialist

United States

When we’re children, we’re told not to talk to strangers — but I’ve made a career of it, translating my natural curiosity into a vocation as a journalist, communications strategist, and supervising editor. I’ve interviewed individuals ranging from legendary architect Frank Gehry and Oscar-winning directors to homeless youth; covered industries including public relations, health care, entertainment, education and commercial real estate; and worked the other side of the aisle as a media relations and corporate communications strategist. Having successfully pitched many of my assigned features, I understand the needs of each media outlet and how to provide valuable content that resonates with readers.

As a LA transplant, I wrote on pressing legal and social issues impacting California for TIME magazine all while learning how to navigate the mind-boggling array of freeways—and ever-expanding rush hours in the Southland.

I love collaborating on a team, either in a newsroom or company, to tell stories that matter and support business-critical initiatives.

Specialties: Editing from initial story conception to final proofreading and copyediting. Working with freelance writers and media relations outreach. Covering breaking news and longer-lead features. Stakeholder relations. Internal and external communications.
